Fox's $22B Roku Bet & Residence's Influencer Grab
The Digital Dealflow
Good Morning,
Residence, the Gemspring Capital-backed creative network, acquired influencer marketing agency GateMaker, folding in a client roster that runs from Estee Lauder and Glossier to Milk Makeup, NARS, and Starbucks; terms were undisclosed. The move mirrors Residence's January pickup of OK COOL.
Hollywood kept circling creators too. Dolphin Entertainment and Kynetic Media Ventures launched Graviteur Studios, a venture financing $1M to $10M creator-led films and series that let YouTubers keep ownership, with a first feature, the YA thriller Crush Party, already in development.
The bigger checks came from the legacy side, where Fox agreed to buy streaming platform Roku for roughly $22B in cash and stock ($160 a share, a 34% premium), handing Fox control of Roku's ad business, FAST channels, and creator hub, with the deal expected to close in the first half of 2027. And the AI-capital wave rolled on as Salesforce agreed to acquire AI customer-service platform Fin for $3.6B.
And MrBeast quietly crossed 500 million YouTube subscribers this week, more than the population of North America- at what point does a single creator become too big to fail?
