Acast's $20M Roll-Up & UTA's Creator Grab

The Digital Dealflow

Good Morning,

Fuse Create took a strategic stake in Sway Group, the influencer marketing firm that runs a network of 50,000-plus creators, giving the Toronto agency an in-house creator arm. Digital Brand Architects, the UTA-owned management firm, acquired V1sion Ventures, which represents Keith Lee, Leigh Soriano, and Joy Burnett, for undisclosed terms.

In audio and commerce, Acast picked up Austin-based Backyard Ventures for $20M, $16M in cash at closing plus $4M in deferred stock, adding a 200-plus creator roster including Ryan Holiday's The Daily Stoic and Piers Morgan's Uncensored. Chief Media acquired Amazon growth agency AMZ Advisers and TikTok Shop agency Reach Social, adding retail-media execution across both platforms.

Elsewhere, Filmhub is partnering with talent management company UnderCurrent to license creator content and negotiate film and TV deals, starting in the supernatural and true crime genres. Duolingo acquired London motion design studio Animade, bringing character animation in-house. And Stake.com and Kick co-founders Bijan Tehrani and Ed Craven took superfan platform Club out of beta at 100,000 members, having paid $10M for the Club.com domain first.

Speaking of numbers that get generous, YouTube starts counting a view the instant a video loads next week. Facebook paid $40M in 2019 over claims its three-second standard inflated counts by as much as 900%.
